Money to directly fill unmet needs of people with disabilities
May 23– Berkshire County Arc held its 25th Annual Golf Classic at Berkshire Hills Country Club in Pittsfield, Mass. on Thursday, May 23, 2019. Many of the 172 community members Saturday have attended the event every year for 25 years.
The money raised – more than $56,000 through sponsorships and donated auction items –- will go directly to the people BCArc serves, fulfilling unmet needs like for individuals with disabilities, including clothing, vacations, dances, music classes, adaptive & therapeutic equipment, and family functions.
The money also goes to scholarships to high school graduates looking to pursue careers in human services. This year BCArc, with the the Down Syndrome Family Group, gave away more than $7,000 to area graduates.
Corporate Sponsors Greylock Insurance, Health New England, and Berkshire Bank committed at the highest level, and some 70 area companies and supporters donated at a variety of levels.
To date, the agency’s annual Golf Classic has raised more than $830,000 and awarded more than $100,000 in scholarships to graduating high school seniors.
“Western Massachusetts is a unique and spirited place,” said Kenneth Singer, BCArc’s president and CEO. “The weather was perfect, and then it stormed, then cleared, then stormed, but that didn’t stop our friends and supporters from rallying for the cause.”
