Brandi Labelle plans to take the next step at Berkshire County Arc. But for now, her role as a relief employee – a substitute in the residential programs – serves her well.

“I plan to grow with the company. I work like 60 hours a week, but I remain at the relief level because I get to choose my own shifts and the location. That flexibility and control works for me for now.”  She sees herself committing to a full-time position with a set schedule and set location in about a year.

“When I started here I had another job,” she said. “I quit that job to focus my time here. I really like the people and the atmosphere here. It’s easy to connect with everyone – my co-workers, the individuals, and their families. It doesn’t feel like work. It’s like hanging around with friends and family. It’s easy to want to help out.”

“I walk into work and the individuals we support yell with excitement,” she said, laughing. “That’s a great way to get greeted when you come into work. I love bonding with all of them.” She described an extra close relationship with Maria. “We have a naturally easy time doing arts and crafts, talking, or just quietly spending time together. . . . I know I’m lucky to have found work like this.”
