After earning a degree as a vetnarian technician and working in the field, Haille Burkart decided to try a position at BCArc’s Center for Development.
“It’s my favorite place to be,” Haille says, a year into the job. “It has a light, happy vibe. It’s a welcoming place for anyone. I still love animals, but the work at CFD always has so much going on, there is no watching the clock. Time flies there.”
As a Developmental Specialist, Haille helps the individuals reach their daily goals. The goals very for each person, and can address speech, mobility, or social skills, for example.
“There are so many dynamic personalities at CFD—individuals and staff. The day is filled with interactions and activities and through that you form a lot of rich relationships.”
Haille, who won BCArc’s 2020 Outstanding Habilitation Specialist Award, said she feels safe from the Coronavirus at the program. “We take a lot of precautions. Everyone takes the guidelines very seriously.”
Haille sees herself returning to school for a degree in the field of mental health. “I’m pretty new to the field, but I like it a lot. I plan on hanging tight right here and moving up if I can.”
