As the first full time outreach staff member, Jason Mach is a trailblazer at BCArc. Jason started off working in employment services but began picking up hours doing outreach shifts, and quickly realized that he had a passion for this work and wanted to make it into a career.

Jason has a caseload of 14 individuals who he meets with on a weekly or biweekly basis. He helps individuals to meet their goals and stay active within the community. A day in Jason’s life as a full-time outreach worker consists of spending time with individuals and doing a variety of different activities together, including going out to eat, working out at the gym, taking a walk, playing games, and much more. Individuals can choose activities based on their own personal interests, although Jason will also encourage them to do things that are out of their comfort zone and will help them work towards their goals.

“A big part of my job is being a good role model and a friend to someone who needs it,” Jason said. “It’s bringing positivity and joy to an individual’s life.”

In addition to one-on-one outings, Jason also facilitates group outings which bring individuals together and can help them to form bonds with one another. Every Tuesday, he brings out a group of guys to get dinner and see a movie at the Beacon Cinema, which has been very successful.

“The dinner and movie group has been an absolute hit and has brought together many new friendships and real, meaningful, and lasting connections,” he said.

Jason has always had a passion for helping others, shown through his experience working with at-risk youth in Boston before he moved to the Berkshires. His favorite part of the work he does at BCArc is being able to brighten someone’s day and form connections with others.

“A big part of my job is being a good role model and a friend to someone who needs it,” Jason said. “It’s bringing positivity and joy to an individual’s life.”

When thinking about the future, Jason hopes to continue doing outreach work for years to come. For him, the position is fun and enjoyable but also incredibly meaningful and rewarding. BCArc is always looking for more outreach staff, and Jason encourages anyone who is interested in an exciting job with flexible hours to apply.

Outside of work, Jason is a devoted father to his six year old daughter, and describes her as the highlight of his life. He also loves sports, taking trips to Boston to visit with friends, and spending time with his family in New York.
