How We Support Families
Caregivers need support too. Our Adult Family Care (AFC) services help make your life – and your loved one’s life – easier.
Services
- Determining eligibility and level of care
- Providing a non-taxable monthly stipend to caregivers
- Nursing oversight
- Case management and support services
- Helping families to build connections with other community organizations and service providers
- Assisting with future planning
- Family support and advocacy
Members
Our members are individuals age 16 and up who cannot live safely on their own, due to medical or physical disabilities or cognitive impairments.
– Must need supervision or assistance with at least a portion of their activities of daily living, such as bathing, dressing, eating, toileting, and/or ambulation
– Must be eligible for MassHealth Standard or MassHealth CommonHealth
– Cannot receive Personal Care Attendant (PCA), Home Health Aide (HHA), or Home Maker Services services in conjunction with AFC services per MassHealth regulations.
Caregivers
An AFC caregiver can be any family member or non-family member who is not currently the member’s legal guardian or spouse.
– Caregivers must live in the same home as the member
– Caregivers must be approved by BCArc according to MassHealth guidelines
Providing Care to Non-Family Members
For participants needing to be matched with a caregiver who is a non-family member, BCArc will adhere to the strictest requirements per MassHealth regulations, in order to secure a successful placement and ensure the health and safety of the participant.
