“If I can do it, I think everybody can.”

Bianca Moriarty started working at BCArc seven years ago as relief staff. With 25 years of experience in working with individuals with disabilities and two children of her own with disabilities, she always felt like it was her calling to help others.

“I’ve always felt like a caregiver, and I just like making people happy, giving them the best life that they possibly can have,” she said.

“I’ve always felt like a caregiver, and I just like making people happy, giving them the best life that they possibly can have.”

She started working at residential program in Southwick,  when the house first opened, and eventually became assistant site manager, a position she held for a year before applying to the manager position. She recalls being initially scared to take on the position, but told herself that she should give it a chance and see how it goes.

“I still do what I’ve done before,” she said. “I still do personal care, and I enjoy spending one-on-one time with my individuals. So that part never really changed, because I made it my priority.”

Bianca praised the support that she has received from her staff and supervisors, and feels that it is important to ask for help when needed. To anyone considering applying for a site manager position, she says that the best thing to do is to “just go for it,” and to make sure that you’re doing it for the right reasons.

“Computers, paperwork, you can learn that. But the biggest thing is that you’ have to have heart, you have to be compassionate, and you need patience. If you have that, you will be successful,” she said.
