DDS Relief Staff Elvis BenleBy Eva Myers

Since Elvis Benle came to the United States in 2007, he tried twice to get hired without success. “But I said ‘I’m not going to give up, I am still going to continue to apply.’”

This quarter Elvis was chosen as Employee of the Quarter. He has worked for Berkshire County Arc for over a year now in residential programs. Being a relief staff gives him the opportunity to visit different houses and make connections with many people.

“BCArc respects my work and I like my job, so I am proud of myself for helping people and proud of BCArc.”

“I cannot say enough good things about him,” says Brooke Brookman, a site manager who works with Elvis and who nominated him. “He is very caring and supportive with our individuals, and they are always happy….We are lucky to have people like Elvis who work for us and who are here for more than just the paycheck.”

His hard work and dedication to the job has paid off with these nominations, and his supervisors had thoughtful words to say about him.

“I cannot say enough good things about him,” says Brooke Brookman, a site manager who works with Elvis and who nominated him. “He is very caring and supportive with our individuals, and they are always happy… We are lucky to have people like Elvis who work for us and who are here for more than just the paycheck.”

Elvis loves getting to know all of the different staff and individuals he works with at BCArc. He enjoys his work and the people he meets, but when asked to choose a favorite memory or part of the job, there were so many he could not choose between them.

“I like to work at all of the houses. One favorite part? No, I can’t choose. I like to work at all of the houses with different people. But I can’t choose a favorite part.”

It means a lot to Elvis to be nominated for his hard work this year. Elvis is passionate about the work he does for BCArc and knows how meaningful the organization is to the community.
