Tina has finally received the independence she always yearned for.
Full of art, past accomplishments, movie CDs, and a pink room– this two bedroom Pittsfield apartment, which once was a dream, has become her reality.
“It’s been a while since I have lived with someone, so I’m excited”
After years of loss and moving around, Tina found a BCArc group home that she made her own. Though she loved having roommates, she also knew she was ready to take that next step– living independently. BCArc presented an apartment-style-living opportunity that would grant her support, one that she eagerly took.
Now a month into her new life, Tina could not be happier. She enjoys her newfound independence and routine, hanging out with her family and longterm boyfriend are among her favorite activities. She attends BCArc’s Transitions program during the day to further her skills as she awaits resuming her cooking career as a lunch lady in the upcoming school year at Pittsfield High School.
Soon, Tina looks forward to living with a new roommate.
“It’s been a while since I have lived with someone, so I’m excited,” she said.
After finally reaching her goal of independent living, the road ahead is brighter than ever. Tina is excited for the future with her boyfriend, hoping to one day have their own home and family. But for now? Tina is enjoying her new chapter as a tenant.
